March 26 Is World of Warcraft the death of LANs?I'm close to finishing off my afternoon and heading home and while I was waiting for one of my servers to reboot I thought I would head out and check out a little bit of the news around World of Warcraft. I haven't had much time to sit down and play games lately and what time I have had I have spent playing other neglected games. My thinking this afternoon was that I would check out some of the news and potentially log onto WoW for an hour or so and grind for a while. Well logging onto Worldofwar.net I was immediately drawn to the article on the topic of Is World of Warcraft killing LAN's. As the co-ordinator of a young (but slowing growing) community LAN this article had me nodding my head in agreement. WoW has really taken something away from our LAN's, I know that at V-LAN we are about to implement a no WoW policy, so that we encourage everyone to play the same games and interact with people in the room, not people in a different country. In response, personally I don't think that WoW is the death of LAN's, I think it has hurt our little local LAN's a little bit. But at the same time I think that WoW is now on it's downwards spiral. I think that people are starting to look to other genres of games again for a renewed thrill. WoW will always be around but over the next six months people might just be willing to brave connecting with people at a little local LAN (like V-LAN) and once again make some physical friends. I look forward to it, greater competition at my LAN and every now and then (maybe) just a little time in WoW... Over the course of the weekend I had a number of people drop by and we had some awesome games. On Friday night though we had a full on 'WoW'fest with 3 of us playing right through until the early hours of the morning (in one case Roger never even went to sleep).
It was awesome, I have spent the last 3 months building my Pally and the last few levels grinding to level 60. I really have to thank Roger (who has another level 60 Pally) for grinding with me so that I could make Level 60. Now I am at the point where I need to spend a lot of time building my armor and resources as well as beginning to build my other characters.
Also some other WoW news, Blizzard apparently are opening a theme'd restaraunt called Burgercraft, launching in June it apears that they will be serving all your favoirte foods with a game spin of them. I wonder if that means I can get quests from the people serving me over the counter so they can give me their murloc eye soup! This has to be an April Fools joke, but a funny one none the less!
Lastly an announcement has been made for the new race in the new WoW exp World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade. We now know that the new Alliance race will be the Wisps. The Wisps are partners with the Night Elves and contain some interesting racial attributes. They hopefully will be a good class to play however I am not sure what I think about the look of them, I reckon this is also an April fools joke as I cannot see to much room to make a very cool looking wisp. Oh well we will see what we see, it's only a couple of months until the expansion comes out! March 29 The Hero's of WoWI love it, Over on world of war they are posting a series of cartoon strips based on the exploits of two characters call Hero's of WoW. These are great because they describe some of the area's and actions that are in WoW with great flair.
